New Work Health & Safety Legislation
The new WHS Act requires persons who wish to exercise the full powers of Health & Safety Representatives (HSRs) to complete approved training courses. Those who have previously completed the 4 day OHS Consultation course need to complete a 1 day 'gap' training course before they can exercise all the powers and functions of a HSR. Persons who have not completed the OHS Consultation course will need to attend a full 5 day HSR training course.

Trade Assessments - Cert III Trade Qualifications
Building & construction workers with experience and skills in a particular trade may be able to obtain a Certificate III trade qualification, recognised by the Office of Fair Trading, without the need for formal training. This important course takes participants through the range of legislation that applies when working at height, and how to carry out risk assessments and determine the safe way to work at height in a variety of scenarios. The practical component includes instruction on working with safety harnesses, lanyards, anchor points and static lines. The course is mapped to the national unit of competency CPCCCM1006A Work safely at heights.
High Risk Work Training and Assessment
Comet Training is currently accredited to conduct training and assessment for the following classes of High Risk Work under the new National High Risk Work licensing system:
Forklift (LF), Elevating Work Platform (WP), Dogging (DG), Basic Rigging (RB), Intermediate Rigging (RI), Basic Scaffolding (SB), Intermediate Scaffolding (SI), Material Hoist (HM) and Personnel & Material Hoist (HP)
More classes are expected to be added in the near future.
MYOB in One Day
This course will suit people who are new to MYOB, and self employed people who need to understand how to use a basic computer accounts system. Participants will be instructed in recording sales & generating invoices, recording payments, purchases and paying bills, & producing basic reports. Class size is limited to 8-9 participants, and each participant will have access to a computer during the course. Ring for details of next course.
Bonded Asbestos Removal
There are now 2 distinct courses, each of approx 4 hrs duration - the standard Bonded Asbestos Removal (Workers) Course for all workers involved in handling and removal of bonded asbestosproducts; and a Bonded Asbestos Removal (Supervisors) Course, which must be completed prior to application to WorkCover for a Bonded Asbestos Removal Licence. An Asbestos Awareness Course is also available which takes people through the health issues involved with asbestos, legislative aspects, and what action to take if asbestos is suspected or detected in the workplace.
